The Good, the Bad, and the Indifferent
Category: Inspiration
In life, there is a natural order to things that cannot always easily be rearranged. "Did you hear about the rose that grew from a crack in the concrete?" This is the first line of a poem by Tupac Shakur. It's a reminder to us that, even against the odds, it is possible to transcend the limits of an environment by relying on what we know we were created to be.
The rose that wishes to grow from under a slab of concrete can spend its days labeling the concrete as bad. It can make a list of the odds against it; the lack of sunlight, the limited water, not being in the company of other roses. It can label its environment as no good and have a predisposition to wish to be like the roses in gardens, planted in reliable soil.
Nevertheless, there comes a time when one must realize the beauty of being planted in places not meant for one to thrive. What can you contribute to your environment when you decide to be indifferent towards the odds stacked against you? What happens when you decide to grow anyway? What happens when you decide to shine regardless of the potential odds of defeat?
In this moment I'd like to invite you to picture yourself as a rose destined to grow. Picture your roots firmly planted and your beauty undeniable. Be confident about what your existence contributes to your surroundings--regardless of what your surroundings are like in this moment. Concrete may have tried to cover you, but you were meant to be a picture of the divinity and supremacy of nature.
